Big news in Bordeaux this week with news of the departure of Jean-Guillaume Prats from the helm of Second Growth Chateau Cos d’Estournel.
Jean-Guillaume has been the driving force behind the transformation of Cos into a First Growth challenger and one of Bordeaux’s most talked-about Chateaux with controversy over its release price strategy and the more recently the super-ripe style of the 2009 that garnered 100 points from Robert Parker.
Christophe Ranger, formerly head of Domaines Reybier’s oil and gas division, will take over at Cos d’Estournel. Mr Prats will oversee the 2012 harvest before leaving in January 2013 to pursue ‘a new challenge’, outside of Bordeaux apparently. No further details have emerged just yet.
